Vice President Kamala Harris recently labeled former President Donald Trump a “fascist” during an interview with 60 Minutes. Her remarks came after John Kelly, Trump’s former chief of staff, confirmed reports that Trump had expressed admiration for dictators like Adolf Hitler and wanted U.S. military generals to display loyalty similar to what Hitler received from his top officers.
Harris stated, “I think it is very important to call out what we understand to be the significance of that,” when addressing Trump’s behavior, further asserting that his actions align with authoritarian and fascist tendencies. She emphasized that Trump’s admiration for autocratic leaders, including Hitler, is a sign of a deeper concern for American democracy. John Kelly’s statements back up reports that Trump, during his presidency, wanted his generals to show unwavering loyalty in a manner that reminded some of Hitler’s military relationships.
