UK travel warning over risk of terror attack in Bangladesh

The UK has issued a warning about the risk of terrorist attacks in Bangladesh. On Tuesday (December 3), the UK High Commission in Dhaka alerted foreign nationals through travel advice, stating that indiscriminate terrorist attacks could occur in crowded areas, religious sites, political events, and other locations. The High Commission added that some groups have targeted individuals they believe to have anti-Islamic lifestyles or views. It also noted that attacks on minority religious groups and security forces have occurred, with explosives being used in major cities. Authorities are actively working to thwart such planned attacks, but heightened security presence and movement restrictions could be imposed on short notice. Travelers are advised to remain aware of their surroundings, especially near police installations or large gatherings. The political situation remains unstable, with ongoing protests and violence that could quickly escalate. The recent unrest has also affected police operations, with significant damage to some police stations. Criminal activity such as robbery, violent crime, and sexual assault is also a concern in cities like Dhaka.
